The Embodiment of Contrasts: Set and Lucifer

In the diverse landscape of modern Left-Hand Path traditions, the Temple of Set carves out a unique space with its emphasis on esoteric knowledge and individual evolution. As a Setian, my path to self-deification is deeply personal and transformative, a journey that challenges societal norms and cosmic order in favor of self-empowerment and divine consciousness. Yet, in a world where our paths inevitably intersect with others, what happens when a Setian explores the grounds of The Satanic Temple? I did just this some time back, and the experience taught me a lot about what it means to engage the Aeon on one's own terms.

The RHP is typically associated with collectivism, conforming to societal norms, and seeking harmony with or within a cosmic order. TST's focus on social issues and collective rights aligns more with this perspective. Conversely, the LHP, particularly in Setian philosophy, emphasizes the individual's quest for self-deification, often in defiance of cosmic order or societal norms. Setian philosophy provides a pathway for those who pursue the illumination of their inner divine essence. It is a path that demands rigorous self-examination, the practice of black magic as a tool for personal growth, and a relationship with the entity Set, which transcends mere symbolism to become a guide and mentor in the Setian's metaphysical exploration.

In contrast, The Satanic Temple is a movement that has gained recognition for its social activism, its challenge to religious orthodoxy, and its advocacy for secularism. TST's rituals and symbolism, while profound, serve as a means to an end — the end being societal and political change. Their approach to Satanism is non-theistic, viewing Satan not as a deity but as an emblem of autonomy and rebellion against arbitrary authority. In building a community around their religious framework, TST has established much of the infrastructure our host culture expects from a religion, including a controlled narrative and a unified dogma. It's a thing that must be experienced, perhaps best pursued by interaction with TST's congregations and their satanic ministry.

How then does a Setian navigate the vibrant yet fundamentally different world of TST? Is there a place for esoteric growth within the theater of social activism? For the Setian, participation in TST can be seen as a form of cultural exploration, a sandbox where one can play with the concepts of rebellion and autonomy on a collective stage. It can be a place to learn through contrast, to appreciate the nuances of one's own path by observing it in relief against another. An experienced initiate should be able to navigate these waters without compromising their own development, but it is a balancing act. Privacy is imperative.

Setian philosophy emphasizes individual self-deification, personal development, and inner exploration. It views initiation as a deeply personal and transformative process aimed at discovering and enhancing one's unique essence and consciousness. TST's activities, while spiritually symbolic, do not primarily focus on these esoteric and individualistic aspects, thus diverging from what a Setian initiate might consider core to an initiatory path. While TST does engage in rituals and symbolic actions, these are often seen as performative or symbolic protests rather than tools for personal magical development or initiation. In contrast, Setian practices view ritual as essential tools for personal growth and the exploration of one's subjective universe (SU).

While TST's rituals may serve a different purpose, a Setian might still find value in the psychological impact and communal energy such performances evoke. Participation in these rituals can be an experiment in adaptation, where the Setian learns to mold and reshape their magical practices in response to the environment — a true test of mastery over the subjective universe. A Setian should be able to approach any working with their own goals and make use of the provided psychodrama to execute them.

Furthermore, there can be strategic value in these engagements. Aligning with TST on certain campaigns that appeal to one's being can amplify the Setian's will in the world, subtly introducing Setian concepts into the broader discourse. Observing and contributing to discussions within TST, a Setian might find their own unexpected insights, refining their understanding of magical and religious dynamics in the process. They may even be able to expand the Aeon by influencing these groups perspectives on certain issues. Well informed opinions are welcome in TST's internal discourse if applied subtly.

Ultimately, the intersection of Setian and TST practices offers a rich tapestry for personal and collective exploration. For the Setian, each interaction is an opportunity to reflect, to challenge, and to grow. It is not about diluting one's beliefs but expanding one's capacity to engage with the world in all its complexity. The journey through TST's realm can become another chapter in the Setian's ongoing quest for Xeper — to become and to know oneself on an ever-deeper level.

To my fellow travelers on the Left-Hand Path, I invite you to consider the intersections of your journey with those of others. Engage with them, teach them, and let those experiences enrich your path to self-deification.
